Dear Parents & Guardians,
We are settling into the third marking period, which means a new semester, new subjects to learn and many exciting upcoming events. As the year progresses, it is critical for students to understand that there are definite keys to success. For example, the student who develops the habit of doing more than is required will form (1) a good work ethic, (2) a sense of pride in accomplishment, and (3) a willingness and drive to succeed. As parents, monitoring and knowing your child's progress is a great way to ensure he/she stays on track and is learning. One way for you to monitor how well your child is doing is through our online HAC system. Please be sure to utilize this great tool.
This letter also serves as notification of the School-Parent Compact as required by the State of Delaware. Each school receiving funds under Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) must develop a written school-parent compact jointly with parents for all children participating in Title I, Part A activities, services, and programs. That compact is part of the school's written parental involvement policy developed by the school and parents under section 1118(b) of the ESEA. The compact outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State's high standards. Delcastle accepts as its own school policy, the district Parent Involvement guidelines found on pages 79-80 of the Parent/Student Handbook. All students were provided a copy of the Parent/Student Handbook at the beginning of the year. Please contact the Guidance department if you would like another copy. Successful School/Parent/Student partnerships are outlined on the last page of this newsletter. The School-Parent compact can also be found on our school website.
Sincerely,
Joseph Jones, Ed.D.
